Historical Books of the Linzee Family

The history of the Linzee Family is captured in a two-volume set of genealogical works entitled: The History of the Linzee Family and the Limesi, Lindsay, Lindsey, Etc. Families, authored by John William Linzee, Jr., B.S., B.A.

The set was originally published privately by the Fort Hill Press of Boston, Massachusetts in 1917. At that time many sets were distributed to interested family members, genealogical societies on both sides of the Atlantic, many public libraries, the College of Arm in London and the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.

With the passage of time it became clear that since 1917 new generations of individuals, both Linzee descendants and others, were keenly interested in the histories and a second printing was warranted. The Linzee Family Association of America, Inc. completed a second printing of the two volume set in 2002. This 2nd edition (both hard and soft cover) has been reprinted with the highest quality of archival materials including 100% cotton, acid free paper. The hardcover editions have navy blue satin cloth covers. The bindings are cotton stitched, round binding with the lettering stamped on the exterior spine in gold foil. The soft cover editions have the same stitching, cloth cover, and gold foil stamp—the only differences being that the bindings are square and the covers are, of course, soft. Each book is individually wrapped by the publisher.

Volume I: The Lindeseie and Limesi Families of Great Britain, Including The Probates At Somerset House, London, England of All Spellings Of The Name LINDESEIE From 1300-1800.

This volume gives an extensive treatise on the origin and history of the surname Lindsay, including virtually all of its spelling variations. Volume I is divided into four chapters. Chapter I covers the ancient records of Lindeseie and Linesi in Great Britain. Chapter II covers the ancient records of Lindsay in Scotland and England. Chapter III treats general compilations of the ancient records of the Limesi Family, the Lindeseie Family and the Lindsays of Scotland. The final Chapter IV lists the probates referred to in the subtitle above.

Volume II: The Linzee Family of Great Britain and the United States of America and Allied Families of Penfold, Hood, Amory, Tilden, Hunt, Browne, Woolridge, Evans.

This volume is a bit more specific in that it chronicles the descendants of the author's earliest known Linzee ancestor. Thomas Linzee who died November 1687 and was buried in the St. Mary's Church cemetery in Kingston, Portsea, Hants, England. Starting with Thomas Linzee and his wife Elizabeth (Hill) Linzee, the author tracks all their descendants up to the time of printing in 1917.

Included in Volume II, amongst the numerous descendants, are many other family names of note who are associated with the Linzee genealogy through marriage; such families as Hood, Penfold, Pasco, Amory, Tilden, Browne, Prescott, Parker, Warick, Hunt, Revere and others. The descendants made their homes around the world including such diverse locations as New Zealand, Australia, India, South Africa, the Americas, and of course Europe and the British Isles.
